Why use a tax agent? No more tax hassles!
Convoluted
Complexity is one of the biggest problems of the Australian taxation system.
The authorities had a crack at simplifying it a few years ago and got nowhere.
If you are thinking of sorting it out yourself, you not only have to be on top of income but also capital gains.
Deductible
The cost of having a return completed by an agent is deductible in the following financial year, so that helps soften the blow when you are handing over your payment.
A bit of slack
You get more time to lodge when you are with an agent. Many taxpayers who hire one will have until March 31, or May 15, before they must lodge their previous financial year’s return. This means they have nine months from July 1 to lodge.
But if you decide to file on your own, the Australian Taxation Office deadline is October 31. And late lodgement can incur penalties.
Registration
The ATO has a compulsory registration system for tax agents. To become one,
a person must have studied Australian tax and commercial law, plus basic accountancy principles. There are also continuing education requirements.
Only registered agents are allowed to charge a fee for preparing a return or transacting matters on behalf of a client.
Professional assistance
If you do develop problems with the Tax Office, it is comforting to have a professional to state your case, given they are far more experienced at dealing
with the ATO and have their own priority access for direct communications.

How soon can I get an appointment?
We can generally arrange appointments within a two week time frame, simply contact us via email or phone to arrange your appointment.
Do you hold onto my tax refund?
No, we do not hold your refund, the ATO will issue your tax refund directly into your nominated bank account to assist in reduction of any delays.
How long will my refund take?
Once we have lodged the tax return (electronically) we expect refunds to be processed within 14 days, however clients have reported receiving refunds within 7 days.
Why would my refund be delayed?
Sometimes, returns take longer to process than the timeframes listed above. Returns can be delayed for a number of reasons. Some of the most common reasons are:
Do you take the payment of fees from the tax refund?
To ensure you receive your refund as quickly as possible, we have the ATO make payment directly to your nominated bank account, therefore your refund is not intercepted in anyway. The payment of our fees is a separate payment payable within 7 days of the invoice date via bank transfer, cash or eftpos. Our fees are fully tax deductible next financial year.
Do you accept card payment?
Yes, we have an eftpos mobile merchant machine to accept debit and credit cards. A surcharge of 1.5% is applicable for all credit card payments. Unfortunately AMEX and DINERS are not accepted.
What if I am not local to your office?
We can arrange phone, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom appointments to save you having to physically come into the office, we have many interstate clients that we communicate with whilst maintaining our high level of customer service.
But I am years behind in lodgements?
We are here to help, so don’t be concerned, we are able to assist you in getting all your tax obligations in order and up-to-date, whether you are in business (small or complex), managing investments or working for a wage, we are able to assess your current situation and resolve it as efficiently as possible.
Can I go back and fix an error in a tax lodgement?
The ATO allow 2 years from the original issued notice of assessment date to amend individual tax returns. There is also a 4 year period to amend Business Activity Statements, simply get in touch and we can check the dates to confirm if an amendment is eligible. Other amendments (outside of suggested time frames) can be processed through an objection with the ATO in certain circumstances, contact us to discuss further.
What is the best way to contact you?
Email is the best contact form, drop us a line info@ocgrant.com.au
How much will it cost?
We can email you a fee schedule as a guide for expected fees, basic individual tax returns start from $154 (inc gst).
